Poor Angus
www.poorangus.com
Poor Angus is an award-winning Celtic quintet based in Hamilton, Ontario. Andrew and Brian were Irish session enthusiasts. They met at a local pub,and played together casually for a couple of years.
Upon meeting piper Ross Griffiths at the same session, and noted local folk singer Scott Cameron Smith, they decided that they had to get together
and bring this music to a wider audience.
With two award-winning albums under their belts and five years of playing festivals and events around North America,
Poor Angus is a professional, energetic and uniquely entertaining Celtic experience. Poor Angus is heavily influenced and inspired by such great acts as Planxty, Silly Wizard, Dervish, Makem and Clancy, The Dubliners, Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, The Pogues, Lunasa, Battlefield Band, Tannahill Weavers, Gordon Lightfoot and, of course, the immortal Stan Rogers.
This then, is the essence of the band. The synthesis of these five talented individuals creates a show which preserves the essence of traditional Scottish, Irish and East Coast music, but interprets it in a more contemporary style.
The Kreellers
www.kreellers.com
The Kreellers are a high energy Celtic Rock group hailing from Detroit, Michigan. This four-piece powerhouse has been unstoppable, performing over 100 shows in 2009, recording the music for Fuji's Enviromax Battery ad campaign, and writing and recording new tunes for their upcoming CD. Still steeped in traditional Irish sound, the band's mix of rock, funk, and even punk elements has created a sound that has won over fans, critics, and even skeptics throughout the North and Midwest and has made them one of the most sought after Celtic acts in the region.
The Rogues
www.therogues.com
If the 78th Fraser Pipe Band sat down with the Waterboys, the Chieftains, the Rolling Stones, and the Dave Matthews Band, and then asked some friends from a symphonic orchestra to join them at the table the resulting sound might begin to resemble the ROGUES. Over the past 16 years the performances of this CeltRock Folk Classical group have electrified audiences on two continents. They have added to their ever-growing family of fans -- affectionately known as the Rogue Army -- at music festivals, theaters, Highland Games, renaissance festivals, clubs, pubs, and corporate events -- anywhere that presents top-quality, high-energy music. This has even included regular rotation on satellite radio station, XM. Their hard won road successes have established them as artists with bona fide international acclaim. Renowned for their musical skill, quick wit, and engaging stage show the ROGUES have mastered the art of creating an immediate connection with their audiences. The ROGUES are fast becoming a household name with music lovers around the world, loved by young and old of all backgrounds.
Carl Peterson
www.carl-peterson.com
A performance by Carl Peterson, whether for a few thousand people or for a few dozen, is best described as a warm, everyone-involved, familiar evening-at-home experience. And home is where Carl Peterson was first introduced to music and song. He learned the traditional songs of Scotland, Ireland, and England, as well as contemporary music of the times, from family and friends alike. After learning to play guitar and banjo, Carl added American folk songs and storytelling to his repertoire, and took it all from Scotland to Canada, then later to America, via radio and television.
